Winter Life on MV - Pathways Gathering Space at the Chilmark Tavern

If you know Chilmark, you will be familiar with the Chilmark Tavern, not a “tavern” per see, but a summer dining hot spot next to the Chilmark Store, tucked in the corner by Tea Lane Associates Chilmark office.

During the winter months this busy restaurant becomes home to the Pathways Gathering Space, an art space dedicated to all the creative arts. Musicians, dancers, poets, artists of all kinds use the space to create and show case their medium. It's open during the daytime, for writers looking to escape the distractions of life and create alone or with like minded folk. On Tuesday evenings the community is enticed in from the cold with wine and cheese and given an opportunity to hear local authors, writers and poets read from their work.  Art adorns the walls and jewelery and other crafts are subtly offered for sale.

A couple of Tuesdays ago, one of my close friends, Lara O'Brien, and some other familiar faces - a real estate broker, a teacher, a boat builder, a yoga instructor - all students of local writer, John Hough, had the opportunity to read from their latest work. About 30 or more people gathered, in this relaxed and casual atmosphere, to listen to them read; each was an inspiration to hear. Who knew there was so much talent among us?

This past Saturday evening Pathways hosted the 3rd “Wearable Art Ball” described on their posters as a black light costume party. Our very own Tea Lane colleague, (house photography being just one of her many talents), Danielle Mulcahy, offered a pre-party costume making workshop from 5 -7pm then the fun began at 7pm with a full on dance party with music by Malcomb and DJ IslandBoy58.

This afternoon, Sunday April 3rd, a more serene gathering was on offer - a healing music session with Pianist David Stanwood.
