Things To Do: October On The Vineyard

October brings sweater weather! The leaves are turning and its feeling a little brisker out there. But when the sun shines it’s still really lovely and temperatures are lingering in the mid 60’s.
There’s lots going on this month –
Starting today and throughout the weekend (October 13-16th) is the Martha’s Vineyard Annual Food and Wine Festival. There will be 16 events over the weekend kicking off at the West Tisbury Ag Hall with “Fresh Off The Farm: A Celebration of Local Farms and Chefs” from 7pm – 9pm on Thursday 13th. Set to be a weekend of culinary delights, including a sommelier throw-down, bourbon and gin tastings, oyster shucking, food talks, wine dinners and more. See the link for the full line up.
Also this weekend October 15th from 11 until 3pm, Morning Glory Farm holds its annual pumpkin festival. Always a popular event where kids (of all ages) can enjoy, pumpkin carving, face-painting, eating wonderful local food, plus the Trebuchet will be launching pumpkins out in the fields.
October 22nd the Farm Institute in Katama, is hosting the Local Wild Food Challenge, described as a “Culinary Competition in which you must forage, hunt, farm, gather or trade for the ingredients of the dish you want to enter. Prizes include a 5 day trip for two to Italy.
Saturday October 22nd from 12- 6pm
There will be tasting tables, and cooking demonstrations, door prizes, food trucks, bar and Music provided by Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish. Visit the website here for more information
Part of the weekend events is also a “Slow and Wild Dinner” on dinner Friday 21st at Detante restaurant in Edgartown
And not to forget, the West Tisbury Farmers Market has moved to its winter location and continues every Saturday at the new Ag Hall from 9 – 12noon.
