Things to do : Christmas in Edgartown 2017

The first week of December and the Woods Hole ferry terminal was packed like it was the first week of August!

It’s Christmas in Edgartown this weekend, which may have something to do with the traffic coming to the island yesterday. Vineyard residents that I spoke to before I boarded my reserved spot on the 8:30 (last) boat were shocked to pitch up mid afternoon to find no standby availability and a 3-4 hour wait. All lanes were full with cars lined up laden with groceries, Christmas shopping and even a tree strapped to the roof of one. But folks were delighted when the trusty Steamship Authority, our lifeline to the mainland, ran an extra boat to get everyone home for the weekend.

And what a weekend it will be. Christmas in Edgartown hailed as one of the highlights on the Edgartown annual Calendar and draws crowds from near and far for a weekend of fun, including the Parade, Donaromas Holiday Stroll, Plum Hill School Elves fair, The Teddy Bear Suite fundraiser for Red Stocking, hosted by our friends at Point B Realty, Free Christmas movies at the Cinema, Patrick Ahearns historical walking tour, the Minnesingers at the Whaling Church and the events first ever Yule Log Eating contest hosted by the Katama General Store!

There are many more events and activities all weekend….wrap up warm snow forecast for tomorrow! See the full line up here at the Edgartown Board of Trade website.
