It's the final week to catch The Second Girl by Irish playwright Ronan Noone, at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse in Vineyard Haven.

Built in the late 1800's by Benjamin Mayhew, four generations after Thomas Mayhew Sr. purchased the island of Martha's Vineyard in 1641, The Mayhew House, also once known as “Big House”, sits like a stately icon of the past overlooking Quitsa and Menemsha Ponds in Chilmark.

With stunning waterviews over the south shore, this 4 bedroom 4 bathroom home on Henry Hough Lane that abuts the lovely Fulling Mill Preserve sold for $1,900,000 on September 16th.

At 12:01 this morning when most of us were sleeping, the much anticipated Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby kicked off over the island. Now in its 71st year, the Derby brings island sports fishermen, women and children together to compete in the categories of bluefish, bonito, albacore and bass caught from both shore and boat. An array of prizes will be awarded over the next month, including the grand prizes of an Eastern 22 foot bass boat, engine and trailer and a Chevy truck.

September rolled in with Tropical Storm Hermine and we concluded summer 2016, with a turbulent Labor Day weekend. We were treated to some amazing sunsets before the storm, Fridays being one of the most spectacular that I've ever seen. Then Saturday brought travel advisories that sent vacationers into a bit of a panic for fear of being stuck, and the Steamship Authority struggled to get people off the island.

This grand home is steeped in Vineyard history; dating back to the Civil war and also having once been the home of playwright and political activist, Lillian Hellman. The six bedroom, 5 bathroom main house commands views of the harbor and Vineyard Sound from its position overlooking 150 feet of beach front.

Hillary Clinton was on Martha’s Vineyard this past weekend attending several fundraising events.  On Saturday afternoon guests and supporters of Hillary’s campaign for President, gathered at the Edgartown home of Frank and Carol Biondi.  Tea Lane owners, Abby Rabinovitz and Leslie Pearlson were there to witness Hillary speak and Leslie remarked at how Tea Lane Founder Eleanor Pearlson would have so loved to have been there:

Some would say September is their favorite month on Martha's Vineyard. The Island is relatively quiet, families have returned to their real lives. The weather still gorgeous, beaches are empty and the ocean temperatures are just right.
