BOOKING THE FERRY TO MARTHA'S VINEYARD

Currently the only way to bring a car to Martha's Vineyard is on the Steamship Authority Ferry that runs from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven year round and also to Oak Bluffs in the summer months. The ferries get very booked up on the weekends so it pays to plan ahead.  The ferry runs 365 days a year.

Summer reservations for the car ferry to Martha's Vineyard open up in January and its a good idea to note the date when this happens because hundreds of people will be booking at this time to try to get the premium summer weekend timeslots!

Check the Steamship Authority website for important opening dates.

On the day that the reservations open up - it can be extremely busy, the website has been known to crash and it can be a challenge. Our advice is to try to remain calm, trust the process and if you don't get the exact time you want - there's a waitlist which usually works out, and remember ...

IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT WHEN YOU GET HERE !

The general public can do a number of things including mail in a request ahead of time, go online, or call to make their reservations.  Sometimes homeowners of rental homes will buy transferable tickets ahead of time for their renters - it's worth asking your Tea Lane Associates agent.

I you don't plan on bringing a car then you do not need to book ahead of time and can purchase a foot passenger ticket either on the Steamship Authority app or at the office in Woods Hole.

Parking is available at the Palmer Avenue Lot in  Woods Hole for a daily fee.

You can also fly to the Vineyard or take other passenger ferries from Hyannis, Falmouth and New Bedford - check out the options of how to get to Martha's Vineyard here

Rental car companies operate from the island - but again these get booked up in peak season.  There are also taxis, buses and UBER/Lyft servicing the island.
